Marianne Paiva, PhD, is a faculty member in the department of Sociology at California State University, Chico. She is the author of Breathe: Essays from a Recovering Paramedic, Applying Sociology in Everyday Life, and is a contributor to the collaborative blog Ethnography.com, and has authored academic articles on various topics.
Dr. Paiva conducts research involving rural communities, environmental justice, access to basic needs, and ethnic and race relations. Her current research revolves around food insecurity among college students, environmental justice issues of food access in rural communities, and the 2018 Camp Fire.
