I’m Marianne Paiva—a sociologist, teacher, writer, former paramedic, and Chico State lecturer who spends a lot of time thinking about everyday life and why people do what they do. This site gathers my work on wildfire, food insecurity, inequality, students, teaching, public sociology, and the strange little moments that reveal how society works. Mostly, it is a home for the things I study, teach, write, and care about.
